Pride and Prejudice: Adapted by Kate Hamil based on the novel by Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice: Adapted by Kate Hamil based on the novel by Jane Austen
    7:30pm
    at Stillwell Theater

This bold, surprising, boisterous, and timely adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! In regency England, love is a serious game, and the Bennet sisters are playing for keeps. This clever comedy offers a decidedly progressive take on the trials of Lizzy, Mr. Darcy, and the whole Bennet clan, with a few dance breaks thrown in for good measure. Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical, or so full of life, than it does in this effervescent adaptation.

Year of Senegal Performance: Khaware (Xaware)
Year of Senegal Performance: Khaware (Xaware)
    8:00pm
at Bailey Performance Center, Morgan Concert Hall

Celebrate the year of Senegal with music, song, and dance! The College of the Arts and Global Education present Khaware (Xaware), directed by Dasha Chapman and Theresa Howard of the Department of Dance. This celebration of West African dance and music features djembe and sabar drum traditions, as well as enchanting kora music, contemporary compositions, and diverse movement techniques. The evening will highlight a rich array of approaches to Senegalese performance by both master artists and students: dance works choreographed and performed by Awa Pikine and Pape Moussa Sonko, and music by Adama Tall (drums) and Morikeba Kouyate (kora), will shine alongside choreography by Kaolack (Pape Ibrahima Ndiaye). The 一夜情视频 Percussion Ensemble, directed by John Lawless of the Bailey School of Music, will accompany student dancers with traditional Senegalese rhythms, using authentic instruments for this performance. Immerse yourself in an evening of total theatre with Khaware (Xaware)!
